MI vs CSK

Mumbai Indians (MI) roared back to form with a commanding nine-wicket win over arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 38 of the TATA IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Riding on a vintage knock from Rohit Sharma and a blitzkrieg from Suryakumar Yadav, MI made light work of CSK’s 176-run target, chasing it down in just 15.4 overs.

Skipper Hardik Pandya’s decision to bowl first proved to be spot on as the MI bowlers kept things tight upfront before the batters delivered a demolition job. The win not only avenged their earlier loss to CSK this season but also handed MI a vital net run rate (NRR) boost in the playoff race.

It was a packed house at Wankhede with fans from both sides turning up in huge numbers for the blockbuster clash. CSK openers Rachin Ravindra and Shaik Rasheed started cautiously, crawling to 16/0 after three overs. The momentum shifted swiftly when Ashwani Kumar, returning to the playing XI, struck with his first ball to dismiss Ravindra.

Enter 17-year-old debutant Ayush Mhatre. The youngster announced himself in grand style by smashing 4, 6, 6 off the final three deliveries of that over, injecting life into the CSK innings. Mhatre's fearless 32 off just 15 balls, however, was short-lived as Deepak Chahar removed him just after the powerplay. Santner followed up by stumping Rasheed in the next over, leaving CSK in a spot at 63/3 in eight overs.

Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja then resurrected the innings with a steady partnership. After a slow start, they exploded in the latter half, especially targeting Ashwani Kumar for 24 runs in the 16th over. Dube continued his strong season with a 32-ball 50 before Jasprit Bumrah sent him back, and followed it up with the wicket of MS Dhoni. Jadeja remained unbeaten with a well-paced 53* (35), pushing CSK to a competitive 176/5.

DC VS RR

Delhi Capitals 188 for 5 (Porel 49, Rahul 38, Stubbs 34*, Axar 34, Archer 2-32) tied with Rajasthan Royals 188 for 4 (Rana 51, Jaiswal 51, Samson 31, Axar 1-23, Starc 1-36) DC won the Super Over

Nine runs needed, six wickets in hand - it should have been a routine finish for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2025. But Mitchell Starc flipped the script, delivering five pinpoint yorkers in a sensational final over. Dhruv Jurel couldn't find two runs off the last ball, and Starc dragged the game into a Super Over.

RR imploded in the Super Over, lasting just five balls and losing both Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal to run outs. DC chased down the 12-run target in just four deliveries.

With DC needing 5 off 3, Tristan Stubbs pulled Sandeep Sharma for six to seal DC's fifth win in six games that took them to the top of the points table. Stubbs had earlier contributed a vital unbeaten 18-ball 34 in regulation time to help DC score 42 off the last three overs.

Punjab Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders

Punjab Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders : Shreyas Iyer pulled off a heist against his former team, whom he captained to the title. This was after Punjab Kings defended the lowest total in IPL history against KKR and pulled off an improbable win. Yuzvendra Chahal led the comeback for PBKS with 4/28 as they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 16 runs.

Earlier, Punjab Kings were off to a flyer with Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. However, Harshit Rana struck twice in an over to get rid off Arya and skipper Shreyas Iyer. Thereafter, the guile of Varun C got the better of Josh Inglis as PBKS lost three in the Powerplay. Thereafter, PBKS kept losing wickets in a heap and could never recover from the early setback and were ultimately bowled out for 111.

Chasing the target, KKR lost their openers in the first two overs but recovered well with Rahane and Raghuvanshi holding fort. However, Yuzvendra Chahal spun a web to pick three wickets to derail KKR's innings. Losing wickets at regular intervals led to their downfall and at the end they were all out for 95 as PBKS won by 16 runs.

CSK VS KKR

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings slumped to their biggest defeat in the IPL (in terms of balls remaining) on Friday. The five-time champions could manage only 103/9 in 20 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders, which the defending champions chased down in just 10.1 overs. This was CSK's fifth loss in six matches in the IPL 2025 and the side is placed ninth among 10 teams. This is also the first time in IPL history that CSK have lost three matches on the trot at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in the IPL. After the loss, former India player and MS Dhoni's ex-teammate Manoj Tiwary had some blunt questions. "From hereon CSK's cart is going to go downhill. It seemed like that from the last three-four matches. You see the shot selection of the players, after playing form 20-25 years, you get to realise what can happen. I couldn't understand some things. Your Purple Cap winner is Noor Ahmad, but when did he come to bowl? In the 8th over. And in the first ball itself, he scalped the wicket of Sunil Narine. Naturally, the cricket sense tells you that if the opposition spinners are doing so well, then you have the Purple Cap winner, why not bring him early? Generally MS Dhoni does not make such mistake. I have not seen it in so many years. Why it happened today, maybe it is worth knowing," Manoj Tiwary said on Cricbuzz.
